Do You Know How to Change a Flat Tire?
Owning a RAM pickup or Dodge car from Glenbrook Dodge Chrysler Jeep® isn’t always road trips and long weekends. Sometimes, we end up with little inconveniences that cause headaches for our entire day. Our Fort Wayne, IN Jeep dealership wants to make sure our customers in the greater Indianapolis area know what to do when they get a flat tire, one of the most common on-road hazards drivers come across.
We all know how big of a headache a flat tire can cause, and if it happens when you’re driving, the main thing is to not panic. Keep your vehicle in control and get to a safe place to replace the tire. Once you’re stopped, locate and remove the spare tire kit in your vehicle – it typically includes a spare tire, tire iron, and a hand-operated scissor jack.
To start, remove the lug nuts on the damaged tire using the tire iron. Then, take the jack and put it into place under your vehicle and lift the vehicle off the ground. Remove the flat tire and put the spare tire in place. You may need to jack the vehicle up higher to match the wheel studs to the spare’s lugs. When you get the spare mounted, put the lugs back on and finger-tighten them. Then you can lower the jack and let the wheel hit the ground, which you can use to finish tightening the lug nuts with the tire iron.
When you’re finished, it’s the smart move to come in to our Fort Wayne, IN Dodge Chrysler Jeep service center. Our experienced technicians will provide you with a thorough diagnostic to make sure nothing else was damaged in the flat, and they will also be able assess the damage done to your wheel – if you need a new one, or just a new tire.
