Getting the Most for Your Vehicle Trade-In

January 23rd, 2018 by

At Glenbrook Dodge Chrysler Jeep RAM and Fiat, your Fort Wayne Chrysler dealers, it is not lost on us how much goes into buying, selling, or trading your previous car before getting a new one. That is why we would like to help you get the best value you can by letting you know what goes into the evaluation of a vehicle trade-in, and what you can do to improve it.

Age
Newer vehicles, all else being equal, are universally going to get more than older vehicles. This is going to come up a lot, but the name of the game is resale. Whatever makes the car more attractive for resale will get you the best value, and most people are looking for newer vehicles. Unfortunately, when it comes to age, there isn’t really anything you can do to make it newer.

Condition
This is where you have the most to work with. It doesn’t matter how old a car is or its make and model if it is in bad condition. You’ll want to make sure the condition is in as close to top form as you can get it. Mileage is a part of this package too. The more miles the car has, the lower the evaluation. Be sure to keep track of any maintenance and body-work you have done, preferably retaining documentation of it.

Appearance
Make sure your car looks as good as it can. This will probably require a bit of detailing, but it is worth it. Anything you can do to make the car look untouched will only boost its value.

A good rule of thumb when it comes to preparing your car for trade-in or sale is to get it to the point where you almost want to buy it from yourself. You can also get an estimated trade-in value for your used Dodge car at our Glenbrook Dodge Chrysler Jeep RAM and Fiat website.
